Book Review: Sinful Urges

by: Sonia Hightower

Available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble

Synopsis:
Follow the confessions of Juan and Maria as they fall prey to lust at first sight. Can they stop themselves before it's too late, or will they become victims of their own sinful urges? A new neighbor sends Juan running to confession to rid himself of the lustful thoughts he experiences. Each confession becomes more erotic, more sinful than the last. Can Juan stop himself, or will he give in to the desire that threatens his very faith? The man across the street causes Maria to question her own morals. When she seeks out a priest for confession, she weaves a tale of exotic kisses and stolen moments. How can Maria find sanctuary in her prayers when her body demands she finds solace in her neighbor's arms?

Review written by Lilith

Sinful Urges is what I would call a novella/short story. I read it in just over an hour. In this story, we get to see what it’s like for a priest as he hears confessions. This story revolves around two main characters, outside of the priest. A man and a woman who seem to have eyes for each other and go to the priest quite often to confess their sins of lust and other things. What we find out is that both are married, and not to each other!

I had a hard time getting into this story. Partly because it would go back and forth between the man and the woman. Normally that’s not hard to follow, but I so wished that when we “heard” the confessions we would get to hear both sides of the tale, and not one side. You would hear the man’s confession, and then the woman would come in with hers and it would be a continuation of what the man had been saying. The writing was quite well and I could imagine the scenes in my head with the great amount detail the author provided. The erotica scene, yes I said scene, was pretty good. Just wish there had been more of them!

Unfortunately, I can’t say that I liked this story. I know it’s fiction, but it just seemed so unbelievable. Do people really give THAT much detail in confession? And the ending, OMG the ending! If this would have been a hard copy book (and not on my Nook) it would have went flying across the room!

Book Review: A Nomadic Witch

by: Debora Geary

Available at Amazon

Synopsis:
Spring brings a traveler to Nova Scotia - a tiny babe who will turn Marcus's life upside down and reincarnate the horrifying events of his past.

Can Marcus find his way through the pain to love and healing? And can the witching community finally learn to keep their astral travelers safe?

A Nomadic Witch is book four of the top-rated A Modern Witch series. Light contemporary fantasy with a good dose of humor, a little romance, and characters you won't want to leave.

If you've followed me for any length of time you know I'm going to gush here. It's a paranormal tale that is so sweet. It just radiates a warm and cozy feeling.

There are some really technical parts to these novels, the witches do not shy away from technology. But Debora has the story so centered on the people, that the technology and magic they use are background to the love, patience and understanding as a person moves toward healing.

We've seen Marcus before, and he is such a sourpuss I was dying to see where the other witches would take him. When Morgan shows up on his doorstep the path is then set. It's not just Marcus having to finally come to terms with the death of his twin, but to love and protect another traveler.

How did Morgan get there? Is Evan still alive somehow? Can Marcus get through his grief so he can care for the girlchild? You'll have to read to see.

Yet another rich, delightful Modern Witch tale. All these powerful little witches has me so curious where it's going to end up. Something big is building. There are supposed to be 7 book in this series.

Book Review - Dog Tails

by: Tara Chevrestt

Available at Amazon

Synopsis: (from Goodreads)
Meet Lola, Pudgy, and Jazzy, three canine cuties that will warm your heart and make you laugh.

In Thank Dog It's Friday, Lola and her human mommy, Trisha trade bodies for a day! Can they cope with their new bodies and prevent Trisha's husband from throwing her into a mental institution?

Pugnacious introduces Pudgy, a very pugnacious pug. She takes her job in a dog bakery very seriously and when the bakery is robbed, it's up to her to save the day, the cash, and the canine cookies!

In Tail of Terror, Jazzy does the unthinkable and she runs away. If she can survive the mean streets, there may be a lesson in store for her and she may make a new friend.

Dog Tails is intended for dog lovers everywhere, but even cat lovers will smile and fall in love with Lola, Pudgy, and Jazzy.

This is a super fast read, it's only 29 pages all together. But it's fun, all the same. There are 3 stories, each with a canine character inspired by one of the authors own furry kids.

The first tail is a body switch, and the other two are doggie run-aways. The first run-away was after her stolen cookies, the 2nd thought she was too good for her owner.

I love that each dog is so contented and happy in their own skin. They don't dream of being human and they fully live in the moment even if they think beyond it.

Only 99 cents and worth the entertainment, especially if you are a dog lover.

The Last Dragon of the North

by: Tony Chandler and Virginia Chandler

**Originally reviewed for Pagan Writers Community.**

Available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble

Synopsis:
Owain Armstrong has been hired to hunt down a red dragon that is killing livestock across Wiltshire . The only evidence is a bloody patch on the ground and the head of the dead animal. Owain begins to track this nocturnal predator when news of another dragon comes – a much bigger dragon.

During his journey, Owain meets up with the famous dragonslayers of the Northern Band: Katja is a beautiful blonde who is deadly with a crossbow; Erik, a massive man that is short in temper and always eager to fight; Lars, a man who is equally as cunning as he is strong and finally Edlund, their leader.

When meeting Owain, the band of weary slayers long had been on a quest to kill the last dragon of the north. But then word comes to them from the Green Dragon Inn about a monster - a dragon - that lives inside the mountain behind the Inn.

And for a price, anything is possible...

Bad fantasy is just bad, but good fantasy rocks! And this was fantastic. So many details, and it was dirty and scary and far more realistic than any other dragon book I've ever read. It answers questions such as "If there were really dragons why haven't scientists found the bones?" and "Really, a huge reptile and one knight in shining armor can take it down single handedly?"

The characters take their time opening up too, this really keeps the story fresh as they are traveling around after the last dragon. Plus with five main characters, it allows loads of time for them to develop and deepen. I really disliked Owain at the beginning, but came to love him by the end. Lars is another one I liked, I think I just loved the name Lars...and speaking of Lars...who has ever combined Vikings and Dragons? Ok, I'm not especially well-read in the fantasy genre, it may have happened, but I haven't seen it yet. And who doesn't love Vikings and Dragons???

So yes, if you want a great fantasy read that is going to let you immerse yourself into the story for a few days, The Last Dragon of the North is it. And I'm hoping, as there was a hint, there may be a continuation of this story. I will be waiting in line for that one!
